Chapter 13

There were present at that season some that told him of the Galilaeans, whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices.

In quello stesso tempo si presentarono alcuni a riferirgli circa quei Galilei, il cui sangue Pilato aveva mescolato con quello dei loro sacrifici.

And Jesus answering said unto them, Suppose ye that these Galilaeans were sinners above all the Galilaeans, because they suffered such things?

Prendendo la parola, Gesù rispose: «Credete che quei Galilei fossero più peccatori di tutti i Galilei, per aver subito tale sorte?

I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

No, vi dico, ma se non vi convertite, perirete tutti allo stesso modo.

Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and slew them, think ye that they were sinners above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem?

O quei diciotto, sopra i quali rovinò la torre di Sìloe e li uccise, credete che fossero più colpevoli di tutti gli abitanti di Gerusalemme?

I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

No, vi dico, ma se non vi convertite, perirete tutti allo stesso modo».

He spake also this parable; A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came and sought fruit thereon, and found none.

Disse anche questa parabola: «Un tale aveva un fico piantato nella vigna e venne a cercarvi frutti, ma non ne trovò.

Then said he unto the dresser of his vineyard, Behold, these three years I come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and find none: cut it down; why cumbereth it the ground?

Allora disse al vignaiolo: Ecco, son tre anni che vengo a cercare frutti su questo fico, ma non ne trovo. Taglialo. Perché deve sfruttare il terreno?

And he answering said unto him, Lord, let it alone this year also, till I shall dig about it, and dung it:

Ma quegli rispose: Padrone, lascialo ancora quest'anno finché io gli zappi attorno e vi metta il concime

And if it bear fruit, well: and if not, then after that thou shalt cut it down.

e vedremo se porterà frutto per l'avvenire; se no, lo taglierai».

And he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the sabbath.

Una volta stava insegnando in una sinagoga il giorno di sabato.

And, behold, there was a woman which had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bowed together, and could in no wise lift up herself.

C'era là una donna che aveva da diciotto anni uno spirito che la teneva inferma; era curva e non poteva drizzarsi in nessun modo.

And when Jesus saw her, he called her to him, and said unto her, Woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity.

Gesù la vide, la chiamò a sé e le disse: «Donna, sei libera dalla tua infermità»,

And he laid his hands on her: and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God.

e le impose le mani. Subito quella si raddrizzò e glorificava Dio.

And the ruler of the synagogue answered with indignation, because that Jesus had healed on the sabbath day, and said unto the people, There are six days in which men ought to work: in them therefore come and be healed, and not on the sabbath day.

Ma il capo della sinagoga, sdegnato perché Gesù aveva operato quella guarigione di sabato, rivolgendosi alla folla disse: «Ci sono sei giorni in cui si deve lavorare; in quelli dunque venite a farvi curare e non in giorno di sabato».

The Lord then answered him, and said, Thou hypocrite, doth not each one of you on the sabbath loose his ox or his ass from the stall, and lead him away to watering?

Il Signore replicò: «Ipocriti, non scioglie forse, di sabato, ciascuno di voi il bue o l'asino dalla mangiatoia, per condurlo ad abbeverarsi?

And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan hath bound, lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day?

E questa figlia di Abramo, che satana ha tenuto legata diciott'anni, non doveva essere sciolta da questo legame in giorno di sabato?».

And when he had said these things, all his adversaries were ashamed: and all the people rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by him.

Quando egli diceva queste cose, tutti i suoi avversari si vergognavano, mentre la folla intera esultava per tutte le meraviglie da lui compiute.

Then said he, Unto what is the kingdom of God like? and whereunto shall I resemble it?

Diceva dunque: «A che cosa è simile il regno di Dio, e a che cosa lo rassomiglierò?

It is like a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and cast into his garden; and it grew, and waxed a great tree; and the fowls of the air lodged in the branches of it.

E' simile a un granellino di senapa, che un uomo ha preso e gettato nell'orto; poi è cresciuto e diventato un arbusto, e gli uccelli del cielo si sono posati tra i suoi rami».

And again he said, Whereunto shall I liken the kingdom of God?

E ancora: «A che cosa rassomiglierò il regno di Dio?

It is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened.

E' simile al lievito che una donna ha preso e nascosto in tre staia di farina, finché sia tutta fermentata».

And he went through the cities and villages, teaching, and journeying toward Jerusalem.

Passava per città e villaggi, insegnando, mentre camminava verso Gerusalemme.

Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved? And he said unto them,

Un tale gli chiese: «Signore, sono pochi quelli che si salvano?». Rispose:

Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.

«Sforzatevi di entrare per la porta stretta, perché molti, vi dico, cercheranno di entrarvi, ma non ci riusciranno.

When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence ye are:

Quando il padrone di casa si alzerà e chiuderà la porta, rimasti fuori, comincerete a bussare alla porta, dicendo: Signore, aprici. Ma egli vi risponderà: Non vi conosco, non so di dove siete.

Then shall ye begin to say, We have eaten and drunk in thy presence, and thou hast taught in our streets.

Allora comincerete a dire: Abbiamo mangiato e bevuto in tua presenza e tu hai insegnato nelle nostre piazze.

But he shall say, I tell you, I know you not whence ye are; depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity.

Ma egli dichiarerà: Vi dico che non so di dove siete. Allontanatevi da me voi tutti operatori d'iniquità!

There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves thrust out.

Là ci sarà pianto e stridore di denti quando vedrete Abramo, Isacco e Giacobbe e tutti i profeti nel regno di Dio e voi cacciati fuori.

And they shall come from the east, and from the west, and from the north, and from the south, and shall sit down in the kingdom of God.

Verranno da oriente e da occidente, da settentrione e da mezzogiorno e siederanno a mensa nel regno di Dio.

And, behold, there are last which shall be first, and there are first which shall be last.

Ed ecco, ci sono alcuni tra gli ultimi che saranno primi e alcuni tra i primi che saranno ultimi».

The same day there came certain of the Pharisees, saying unto him, Get thee out, and depart hence: for Herod will kill thee.

In quel momento si avvicinarono alcuni farisei a dirgli: «Parti e vattene via di qui, perché Erode ti vuole uccidere».

And he said unto them, Go ye, and tell that fox, Behold, I cast out devils, and I do cures to day and to morrow, and the third day I shall be perfected.

Egli rispose: «Andate a dire a quella volpe: Ecco, io scaccio i demòni e compio guarigioni oggi e domani; e il terzo giorno avrò finito.

Nevertheless I must walk to day, and to morrow, and the day following: for it cannot be that a prophet perish out of Jerusalem.

Però è necessario che oggi, domani e il giorno seguente io vada per la mia strada, perché non è possibile che un profeta muoia fuori di Gerusalemme.

O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, which killest the prophets, and stonest them that are sent unto thee; how often would I have gathered thy children together, as a hen doth gather her brood under her wings, and ye would not!

Gerusalemme, Gerusalemme, che uccidi i profeti e lapidi coloro che sono mandati a te, quante volte ho voluto raccogliere i tuoi figli come una gallina la sua covata sotto le ali e voi non avete voluto!

Behold, your house is left unto you desolate: and verily I say unto you, Ye shall not see me, until the time come when ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.

Ecco, la vostra casa vi viene lasciata deserta! Vi dico infatti che non mi vedrete più fino al tempo in cui direte: Benedetto colui che viene nel nome del Signore!».
