Chapter 25

Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom.

Il regno dei cieli è simile a dieci vergini che, prese le loro lampade, uscirono incontro allo sposo.

And five of them were wise, and five were foolish.

Cinque di esse erano stolte e cinque sagge;

They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them:

le stolte presero le lampade, ma non presero con sé olio;

But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.

le sagge invece, insieme alle lampade, presero anche dell'olio in piccoli vasi.

While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept.

Poiché lo sposo tardava, si assopirono tutte e dormirono.

And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him.

A mezzanotte si levò un grido: Ecco lo sposo, andategli incontro!

Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps.

Allora tutte quelle vergini si destarono e prepararono le loro lampade.

And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out.

E le stolte dissero alle sagge: Dateci del vostro olio, perché le nostre lampade si spengono.

But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves.

Ma le sagge risposero: No, che non abbia a mancare per noi e per voi; andate piuttosto dai venditori e compratevene.

And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut.

Ora, mentre quelle andavano per comprare l'olio, arrivò lo sposo e le vergini che erano pronte entrarono con lui alle nozze, e la porta fu chiusa.

Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us.

Più tardi arrivarono anche le altre vergini e incominciarono a dire: Signore, signore, aprici!

But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not.

Ma egli rispose: In verità vi dico: non vi conosco.

Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.

Vegliate dunque, perché non sapete né il giorno né l'ora.

For the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods.

Avverrà come di un uomo che, partendo per un viaggio, chiamò i suoi servi e consegnò loro i suoi beni.

And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey.

A uno diede cinque talenti, a un altro due, a un altro uno, a ciascuno secondo la sua capacità, e partì.

Then he that had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made them other five talents.

Colui che aveva ricevuto cinque talenti, andò subito a impiegarli e ne guadagnò altri cinque.

And likewise he that had received two, he also gained other two.

Così anche quello che ne aveva ricevuti due, ne guadagnò altri due.

But he that had received one went and digged in the earth, and hid his lord's money.

Colui invece che aveva ricevuto un solo talento, andò a fare una buca nel terreno e vi nascose il denaro del suo padrone.

After a long time the lord of those servants cometh, and reckoneth with them.

Dopo molto tempo il padrone di quei servi tornò, e volle regolare i conti con loro.

And so he that had received five talents came and brought other five talents, saying, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me five talents: behold, I have gained beside them five talents more.

Colui che aveva ricevuto cinque talenti, ne presentò altri cinque, dicendo: Signore, mi hai consegnato cinque talenti; ecco, ne ho guadagnati altri cinque.

His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

Bene, servo buono e fedele, gli disse il suo padrone, sei stato fedele nel poco, ti darò autorità su molto; prendi parte alla gioia del tuo padrone.

He also that had received two talents came and said, Lord, thou deliveredst unto me two talents: behold, I have gained two other talents beside them.

Presentatosi poi colui che aveva ricevuto due talenti, disse: Signore, mi hai consegnato due talenti; vedi, ne ho guadagnati altri due.

His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

Bene, servo buono e fedele, gli rispose il padrone, sei stato fedele nel poco, ti darò autorità su molto; prendi parte alla gioia del tuo padrone.

Then he which had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew thee that thou art an hard man, reaping where thou hast not sown, and gathering where thou hast not strawed:

Venuto infine colui che aveva ricevuto un solo talento, disse: Signore, so che sei un uomo duro, che mieti dove non hai seminato e raccogli dove non hai sparso;

And I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the earth: lo, there thou hast that is thine.

per paura andai a nascondere il tuo talento sotterra; ecco qui il tuo.

His lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strawed:

Il padrone gli rispose: Servo malvagio e infingardo, sapevi che mieto dove non ho seminato e raccolgo dove non ho sparso;

Thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received mine own with usury.

avresti dovuto affidare il mio denaro ai banchieri e così, ritornando, avrei ritirato il mio con l'interesse.

Take therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him which hath ten talents.

Toglietegli dunque il talento, e datelo a chi ha i dieci talenti.

For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath.

Perché a chiunque ha sarà dato e sarà nell'abbondanza; ma a chi non ha sarà tolto anche quello che ha.

And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

E il servo fannullone gettatelo fuori nelle tenebre; là sarà pianto e stridore di denti.

When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:

Quando il Figlio dell'uomo verrà nella sua gloria con tutti i suoi angeli, si siederà sul trono della sua gloria.

And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats:

E saranno riunite davanti a lui tutte le genti, ed egli separerà gli uni dagli altri, come il pastore separa le pecore dai capri,

And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.

e porrà le pecore alla sua destra e i capri alla sinistra.

Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:

Allora il re dirà a quelli che stanno alla sua destra: Venite, benedetti del Padre mio, ricevete in eredità il regno preparato per voi fin dalla fondazione del mondo.

For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:

Perché io ho avuto fame e mi avete dato da mangiare, ho avuto sete e mi avete dato da bere; ero forestiero e mi avete ospitato,

Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.

nudo e mi avete vestito, malato e mi avete visitato, carcerato e siete venuti a trovarmi.

Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?

Allora i giusti gli risponderanno: Signore, quando mai ti abbiamo veduto affamato e ti abbiamo dato da mangiare, assetato e ti abbiamo dato da bere?

When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?

Quando ti abbiamo visto forestiero e ti abbiamo ospitato, o nudo e ti abbiamo vestito?

Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?

E quando ti abbiamo visto ammalato o in carcere e siamo venuti a visitarti?

And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.

Rispondendo, il re dirà loro: In verità vi dico: ogni volta che avete fatto queste cose a uno solo di questi miei fratelli più piccoli, l'avete fatto a me.

Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:

Poi dirà a quelli alla sua sinistra: Via, lontano da me, maledetti, nel fuoco eterno, preparato per il diavolo e per i suoi angeli.

For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink:

Perché ho avuto fame e non mi avete dato da mangiare; ho avuto sete e non mi avete dato da bere;

I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not.

ero forestiero e non mi avete ospitato, nudo e non mi avete vestito, malato e in carcere e non mi avete visitato.

Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee?

Anch'essi allora risponderanno: Signore, quando mai ti abbiamo visto affamato o assetato o forestiero o nudo o malato o in carcere e non ti abbiamo assistito?

Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me.

Ma egli risponderà: In verità vi dico: ogni volta che non avete fatto queste cose a uno di questi miei fratelli più piccoli, non l'avete fatto a me.

And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.

E se ne andranno, questi al supplizio eterno, e i giusti alla vita eterna».
