Chapter 6

Hear ye now what the LORD saith; Arise, contend thou before the mountains, and let the hills hear thy voice.

Ascoltate dunque ciò che dice il Signore: «Su, fà lite con i monti e i colli ascoltino la tua voce!

Hear ye, O mountains, the LORD'S controversy, and ye strong foundations of the earth: for the LORD hath a controversy with his people, and he will plead with Israel.

Ascoltate, o monti, il processo del Signore e porgete l'orecchio, o perenni fondamenta della terra, perché il Signore è in lite con il suo popolo, intenta causa con Israele.

O my people, what have I done unto thee? and wherein have I wearied thee? testify against me.

Popolo mio, che cosa ti ho fatto? In che cosa ti ho stancato? Rispondimi.

For I brought thee up out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed thee out of the house of servants; and I sent before thee Moses, Aaron, and Miriam.

Forse perché ti ho fatto uscire dall'Egitto, ti ho ridi schiavitù e ho mandato davanti a te Mosè, Aronne e Maria?

O my people, remember now what Balak king of Moab consulted, and what Balaam the son of Beor answered him from Shittim unto Gilgal; that ye may know the righteousness of the LORD.

Popolo mio, ricorda le trame di Balàk re di Moab, e quello che gli rispose Bàlaam, figlio di Beor. Ricordati di quello che è avvenuto da Sittìm a Gàlgala, per riconoscere i benefici del Signore».

Wherewith shall I come before the LORD, and bow myself before the high God? shall I come before him with burnt offerings, with calves of a year old?

Con che cosa mi presenterò al Signore, mi prostrerò al Dio altissimo? Mi presenterò a lui con olocausti, con vitelli di un anno?

Will the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams, or with ten thousands of rivers of oil? shall I give my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?

Gradirà il Signore le migliaia di montoni e torrenti di olio a miriadi? Gli offrirò forse il mio primogenito per la mia colpa, il frutto delle mie viscere per il mio peccato?

He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?

Uomo, ti è stato insegnato ciò che è buono e ciò che richiede il Signore da te: praticare la giustizia, amare la pietà, camminare umilmente con il tuo Dio.

The LORD'S voice crieth unto the city, and the man of wisdom shall see thy name: hear ye the rod, and who hath appointed it.

La voce del Signore grida alla città! Ascoltate tribù e convenuti della città:

Are there yet the treasures of wickedness in the house of the wicked, and the scant measure that is abominable?

Ci sono ancora nella casa dell'empio i tesori ingiustamente acquistati e le misure scarse, detestabili?

Shall I count them pure with the wicked balances, and with the bag of deceitful weights?

Potrò io giustificare le false bilance e il sacchetto di pesi falsi?

For the rich men thereof are full of violence, and the inhabitants thereof have spoken lies, and their tongue is deceitful in their mouth.

I ricchi della città sono pieni di violenza e i suoi abitanti dicono menzogna.

Therefore also will I make thee sick in smiting thee, in making thee desolate because of thy sins.

Anch'io ho cominciato a colpirti, a devastarti per i tuoi peccati.

Thou shalt eat, but not be satisfied; and thy casting down shall be in the midst of thee; and thou shalt take hold, but shalt not deliver; and that which thou deliverest will I give up to the sword.

Mangerai, ma non ti sazierai, e la tua fame rimarrà in te; metterai da parte, ma nulla salverai e se qualcuno salverai io lo consegnerò alla spada.

Thou shalt sow, but thou shalt not reap; thou shalt tread the olives, but thou shalt not anoint thee with oil; and sweet wine, but shalt not drink wine.

Seminerai, ma non mieterai, frangerai le olive, ma non ti ungerai d'olio; produrrai mosto, ma non berrai il vino.

For the statutes of Omri are kept, and all the works of the house of Ahab, and ye walk in their counsels; that I should make thee a desolation, and the inhabitants thereof an hissing: therefore ye shall bear the reproach of my people.

Tu osservi gli statuti di Omri e tutte le pratiche della casa di Acab, e segui i loro propositi, perciò io farò di te una desolazione, i tuoi abitanti oggetto di scherno e subirai l'obbrobrio dei popoli.
